"Sometimes, we underestimate ideas because they don't appear complicated enough."
In ULES, we encourage our students to participate in extracurricular activities such as competitions and hackathons to boost their portfolios and gain experience. During the just concluded Ecobank InnovateX 2026, a team of students in engineering won third place.
Blessing Adetona, Samuel Aderogba, Omesebi Michael King and Abe Nifemi pitched Konvoy, a transportation platform designed to help corpers locate their places of deployment without hitches. Konvoy features squads— a way corpers travelling to a location on the same day could interact with each other, state buddies— who would help the corpers meet people already familiar with that location and live location sharing for the people back at home.
Like any journey, the path to the third place position was not a smooth one. The initial MVP was the least complicated part of the journey; other features had to be designed and optimised. The day of the event was met with nerves and the team navigated through the hiccups with the grace of engineers.
Some issues close to the finish line almost dashed their hopes but all excitement was regained when they were announced as the 2nd runner-up of the event!
Their problem was unique; looking at solving issues of the people around them and caught the judges' eye.
The winners urge all ULESites to keep building and experimenting with ideas around that one might change everything.
We draw encouragement from team Konvoy and wish them a hearty congratulations.
